The House of the Merchant Guild of untreated boulders is the oldest civil building in Vyborg. It appeared in the XIV century. The building has no sign plate with address, but you can see it with half an eye because of its unusual location: the house stands cornerwise to the Novaya Zastava and Vyborgskaya streets.
A two-storeyed mansion with powerful walls of granite boulders was built in Vyborg by a local merchant, and in the 16th century the building moved to the merchant guild. The second floor was occupied by merchants who made deals, and the first floor was used to store goods. For several centuries the house sank, and the ground level raised, so the first floor turned into a full-fledged cellar. Today the former merchant’s office houses a souvenir shop.
