An impressive six-tiered tower rises in the park on the Gremyachaya Hill (Gremyachaya Gora) on the steep bank of the Pskova River. The tower was set here in 1525 at the behest of Prince Vasili. Initially, the tower was called Kosmodemyanskaya like the Kosmodamian monastery that existed here. And when they destroyed the present Gremyachaya Tower that stood right above Gremyachiye Gates, its name passed to the Kosmodemyanskaya tower.
The Gremyachаyа Tower has secrets: the cunning dungeons and a stone tunnel leading straight to the river. The tunnel was made in order to be able to extract water during long sieges. The tower is shrouded in all sorts of legends. The most romantic of them tells of a beauty who was condemned by her mother's curse to lie forever in a coffin in the local cave and only a brave young man could have saved her, ready to read the Psalter at her headboard for 12 days without sleep and rest. Another legend recalls the heroism of Pskov residents. It tells about a prince who was traitorously killed in the tower by the enemies. He rose from the coffin at the time of the most brutal battle and inspired his fellow countrymen to win.One can see a beautiful view of the banks of the Pskova River from the Gremyachaya Tower. After inspecting the tower, one should look into the Finnish park - a real oasis of beauty and tranquility, where one can relax in a deck chair, walk along the alleys and admire the unique northern nature.
