Gagarin Park of Culture and Recreation was opened in 1976 on the site where in 1930 there were summer houses of NKVD (People's Commissariat for Internal Affairs) employees. It is arranged so that everyone could enjoy outdoor activities any time of the year.
In the warmer months the Gagarin Park provides rental boats and water bikes on the artificial canal. A large playground and an amusement park are also open to visitors. You can ride a horse or have a ride on a Ferris wheel. The park has a skating rink which is open through the winter. Children here are always attracted by a large population of squirrels which can be hand-feed. In 2011, Yuri Gagarin’s bust was installed in the park on the occasion of his first spaceflight’s anniversary. Among the other major attractions is the machinery of the Great Patriotic War.
