The red and white fire-tower rises today in Volgograd in the same place where the first wooden fire station, built back in the XIX century, stood. The former tower had an alarm bell, stables, working buildings, and even a veterinary clinic.
Later, the building of the fire brigade was rebuilt several times. In the 1990s, it was almost destroyed by fire, though it was built to fight fire. Now the fire station is renovated and several municipal offices are located in the building. The watchtower houses a small museum and there is a viewing platform offering visitors the opportunity to admire the views of Volgograd.
