One of the patrimonial estates of the Russian poet Pushkin, his poetic homeland — the estate of Zakharovo is located 13 km far from Zvenigorod. This estate belonged to the poet’s grandmother — Maria Alekseevna Gannibal, who acquired it in 1804. The poet’s family spent every summer in Zakharovo. It was here that Pushkin spent his childhood full of friendship with peasant children, dances and contemplation of the beauty of local nature.
It is known that when the 30-year-old Pushkin came to Zakharovo estate in order to remember the places where his childhood passed, he was very much disappointed to see his former comrades, boys and girls, who had become peasants and country women. His unhappy impressions of that trip the poet reflected in the unfinished story «The History of the village of Goryukhino». After the sale of the estate in 1811, it had many owners. Only to the 200th anniversary of the poet in 1999 the estate of Gannibal was completely restored. The walls of the house are new, but the trees are the same age as the poet! The manor house is surrounded by a large park: a lake, a small river and quiet avenues of lime set up for a pleasant walk. There is a touching monument of grandmother Maria Gannibal with young Pushkin in the old apple orchard. Excursions in the estate must be booked in advance, or one can inspect the exposition himself. Entrance to the estate is free. The trip by train from the Belorussky railway station of Moscow will take not more than an hour.
