The site of the present Esplanade in Perm was once occupied by a residential quarter. But in 1970s of the XX century it was decided to demolish the wooden structures and arrange a museum and a walking area instead.

The Esplanade, which is popularly called "the airdrome", has become a kind of a cultural center in the open air in Perm. A monumental sculpture to the Heroes of the Front and Rear is located in the center of it. Also, there is Perm Drama Theatre and a beautiful musical fountain "The River" here. Folk festivals and concerts of military and patriotic music are held on the Esplanade on the Victory Day.
