The Kostroma embankment is divided into the High Volga Embankment and Lower Volga Embankment. There is a berth on the Lower, to which cruise ships along the Volga arrive in the summer. A wonderful view opens up on the Volga expanses from the High Embankment arranged on the site of the former ramparts. There is also the Ostrovsky’s Pavilion here, to which wedding caravans like to come.
The Ostrovsky’s Pavilion on the embankment of Kostroma appeared in 1956. They called the pavilion in memory of the Russian playwright Alexander Ostrovsky, who visited the city in 1848 and made many records about it and its inhabitants in his diary. These impressions later became the basis of some of his plays. On the embankment one can see a metal sculpture of the boat - the symbol of the city. And there is a small market near the pier with the ships where items made of flax and local souvenirs are sold.
