Embankment of the Tom River is one of the popular promenades of the city. And although the river boat station of Tomsk is loaded much less than in the Soviet times, the ships are still sent from here to the Left Bank and there are several recreational motor ships «Moskva». The embankment of the Tom River has always been a place of lively trade. Barges with cargoes came here, which were unloaded right here and goods were taken to warehouses. Several warehouse buildings and architectural monuments have been preserved on the embankment.
From the embankment of the Tom River there is a magnificent view of the open spaces of the river. The most famous in Russia monument to Anton Chekhov stands at the corner of the embankment. It is known that the Russian writer was in Tomsk in 1890. In the jubilee for the city year in 2004 a monument to the writer was set in the city and became its symbol. In summer a festival «Chekhov’s Friday» is held on the embankment in front of the monument to the writer. And if one wants to come to Tomsk again, he has to rub the nose to the bronze Anton Pavlovich.
