The first plans for the development of the Embankment of the Dnepr River in Smolensk were worked out back in 1816. But the construction work was postponed for various reasons until 2013! The modern Embankment of the Dnepr River is three-tiered with many crossings and stairs. The paths are paved with cubes, as well as beautiful lanterns and benches are installed. The embankment runs along the imposing Smolensk Fortress with a new pedestrian bridge across the Dnieper. This is one of the most picturesque places in Smolensk, which offers a wonderful view of the Assumption Cathedral and numerous ancient churches along the river banks.
A monument to Prince Vladimir, who christianized Rus’, has recently been erected on the Embankment of the Dnepr River. The four-meter-high monument is turned towards the Dnieper. The sculpture gave a name to the entire Smolensk embankment which is now called Vladimirskaya. It's nice to make a walk here, especially in the warm season, and choose the best camera angles for photos.
