Cyril and Methodius Cathedral is one of the most modern ones in Samara. It was built in 2000 in neo-classical style. Its height, together with the cross is 57 meters, the height of the bell tower is 73 meters. Hence, it is considered the largest cathedral in the city: it can admit three thousand people at once.
Cyril and Methodius Cathedral was built on the site of the former pioneer camp, of which only the dining-room had been preserved in more or less fair condition. It was initially used as a temporary church. The main shrines of the temple are the relics of the Bethlehem infants and the icon of St. Joasaph of Belgorod, donated to the church when it was still under construction.
