«Cosmos» museum is located in the village of Nikulskoe, 25 kilometers far from Tutaev, in the birthplace of the world’s first female cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova. The museum was founded in 1975. Its expositions are located in two separate buildings. One of them is a hut restored by memories of Tereshkova, her father’s house which was in the village of Bolshoe Maslennikovo. The house did not survive till our days, and the interior was collected by enthusiasts from the surrounding villages to recreate the appearance of the house where Tereshkova’s family lived in the pre-war period.
In the second building of the «Cosmos» museum an exposition dedicated to the origins of the Soviet space is arranged. In two exhibition halls one can see how the space armchairs, spacesuit and helmet, the descent space vehicle of the «Vostok» type looked like, in which cosmonaut Tereshkova returned in 1963. The excursion tells how a simple village girl could go a long way: from a peasant family to outer space and what difficulties the first cosmonauts overcame.
