The Cathedral of the Annunciation is the main temple of the city and the residence of the Archbishop of Blagoveshchensk and Tynda. The temple was erected in 2002 on the site of the first stone Church of the Intercession, built in the late 19th century and destroyed in 1930. Seven bells were cast for the bell tower 32 meters high in Voronezh, the largest of which weighs more than a ton.
The main property of the Cathedral of the Annunciation is the Albazin Icon of the Mother of God, which the Cossacks brought to the Amur River region at the end of the 16th century. This icon is associated with the story of the miracle of the apparition of the Mother of God. Legend says that during the Chinese attack in 1900 on the bank of the River Amur a woman in white was seen, who prevented the shooters from reaching the target. Believers think that it was the apparition of the Mother of God, thanks to which the city was almost not damaged during the siege. Albazin Icon is considered miraculous and attracts pilgrims from all over Siberia and the Far East, praying for healing and family well-being. Every year on March 22 a holiday is held in the cathedral in her honor.
