Buryatia History Museum began to be created in Ulan-Ude after the revolution of 1917. This was an important milestone in the formation of the self-consciousness of the Buryats and Evenki who inhabited these lands. The collection was placed in the building of the Holy Odigitrievsky Cathedral, and after the collapse of the Soviet Union the museum was given a room on Profsoyuznaya Street.
Priceless historical exhibits are exhibited in the museum - the famous "Ostrog Bible" of the printing pioneer Ivan Fyodorov, published at the end of the XVI century, a collection of ancient Buddhist literature, Hunnish precious vessels from the Ivolga Archeological Complex and treatises of ancient doctors. Visitors also mark the unusual doll-sculptures of the gods, who were worshiped by Buryats, and the original dress-gowns. All this helps to better understand the life and culture of the local people.
