The Assumption Church was built in 1694 in the village of Nelazsky located 140 km west of Vologda and 30 km from Cherepovets. This is one of the few surviving wooden churches of the XVII century in Vologda Region. In the 1850s, local residents put a shaky church with a high basement on a stone foundation and lined it with a deal. After that, a new iconostasis was created. The surviving icons of the Assumption Church and a model of its original design can be seen in the Cherepovets Art Museum.
The unusual Assumption Church forms a cross in plan view. In the second half of the 20th century, the five domes of the church were covered with metal and painted in green. The covered porch, decorated with another dome, provides access to the gallery which encircles the temple on three sides and stands on high pillars.
