It is no accident that Wire Museum appeared in Altena. Already in the Middle Ages this town was the centre of its manufacture. Museum was opened in 1964 not far from the Altena castle, in the former classical school for girls. Everything was made from wire in the town: from chain armour to hangers, hawsers, cable railways and other complex mechanisms!
Here you can see what things modern artists make from wire. Museum accepts the ticket with the County of Mark Museum in Altena Castle, so it’s a good opportunity to visit both places.
