There was an intention to remove the old mill with a low ceiling in 1972, but it was spared thanks to the efforts of fans of painter and poet Wilhelm Busch, the author of the first German comics. In 1841, his shopkeeper father entrusted nine-year-old Wilhelm’s education to the local pastor. In this way he met with his peer, the miller's son, Eric Bachmann. Wilhelm and Eric became lifetime friends.
Wilhelm Busch became famous thanks to a series of illustrated children's stories, whose protagonists were two friends, mischievous Max and Moritz. The painter confessed that the comics were based on his childhood adventures in the Bachmann mill. The latter has not been used for its intended purpose since long ago: it is open for tourists and weddings. ilhelm and Eric became lifetime friends.
