Wernigerode Castle withfairy tale turrets, a fascinating museum and excellent panoramic sites is theclaim of fame of the city. The fortress on the site of the modern palaceexisted already in the XII century. It was rebuilt several times, modified andsupplemented in the Renaissance style in the XVI century and in the Baroquestyle in the XVII century. The castle acquired the current eclectic look in theXIX century.
Since 1949, a history museum with original interiors,furniture, objets d'art has been located in Wernigerode Castle. Visitors canexplore the fifty rooms with exhibits on the history of the German nobility ofthe XIX century. The castle terrace offers amazing views of Wernigerode Castleand its scenic surroundings. Travelers can get to the top of the hill on aspecial tourist train that runs regularly between the castle and Market Square.
