This crossing over the Rhine connects Mainz with Wiesbaden, the main city of the Land of Hesse. An arched bridge, built in the late XIX century on the site of the Roman crossing, was blown up by the retreating German troops in 1945. It was rebuilt after the war and named after the first president of post-war Germany. The bridge arches are decorated with beautiful mosaic. Since 1995, the bridge with a total length of 475 meters is open to pedestrians and cyclists, and offers beautiful views of the city. In the summer, on Midsummer Day, the route of the marathon “Three Bridges Walk” passes through this bridge.
