The majestic building of the Franciscan monastery in Neubrandenburg is oneof its main attractions. This monastery has always been a center of the localcultural and economic life. In 1260, a village appeared around this monastery,which later became the city of Neubrandenburg. The monastery fell to decay afterthe Reformation, in the first half of the XVI century. Later, it housed ahospital and an almshouse.
The Franciscan Monastery currently houses one of the oldestlocal history museums in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (Regionalmuseum Neubrandenburg).It exhibits unique collections of samples of ancient crafts, works of art bylocal artists and other showpieces telling the history of the city and theregion.
