St. Michael's Church is one ofthe oldest churches having survived in Germany. It was built in the early IXcentury! It resembles a medieval castle with thick walls and pinnacles.
A unique antique furniture has been preserved inside St.Michael's Church. The church, like many other religious buildings in Fulda, formallybelongs to the Frauenberg Monastery. Once it housed a memorial chapel: funeralservices for the dead were performed here. So a somewhat frightening panel ofhuman skulls appeared on the church wall, reminding parishioners of the frailtyof life and the proximity of death.
