The construction of the parish Church of Saints Peterand Paul in Görlitz began in the XIII century on the site of the temple of theXI century. Two neo-Gothic towers, considered a city symbol, appeared only inthe late XIX century. The important landmark of the city's main church is the “SunnyAuthority” (Sonnenorgel), considered one of the best organs in the north of theAlps.
The organ in thechurch was founded in 1703 by the famous Italian Casparini. The masterdecorated the organ with 17 solar disks and transformed the pipes into sunrays. The solar disks and angels are almost the only thing left from theoriginal organ repaired in the 1990s. During warmer months, organ concerts aregiven at noon on Thursdays and Sundays.
