Nuns of the Cistercian Order lived in Saarn Monastery from the XIII to the XIX century. Later the premises of the monastery were given over to the Prussian arms factory, and even later were used as a nursing home. Today the buildings of Saarn are associated with weapons production and are included in the Route of the Industrial Heritage in the region.
Today it is a museum telling about the monastery’s 800-year history. Not only religious objects are presented and ascetic interiors of cells are kept in it, but there is also an illustration of the monastery pharmacies and craft workshops, allowing the monastery inhabitants to earn money. The abbey church today hosts sacred music concerts.
