The picturesque ruins of Wolfstein Castle are worth mentioning from among the attractions in the vicinity of Neumarkt. Its history dates back to about 900. First, it had only defensive functions, later it was made a knight's castle with living spaces, a chapel, a ballroom, barracks and a prison.

By the XVII century the castle had lost its importance and gradually turned into ruins. However, in this case you should not be afraid of the word "ruins". Through the efforts of the Association of Friends of Wolfenstein, the castle ruins have been well maintained and even look romantic. The castle hill offers a wonderful view of Neumarkt and its surroundings. By the way, fans believe that Wolfstein Castle was the prototype of Wolfenstein cult computer game, although this theory has not been confirmed in reality.
