Rosslau castle appeared in the place of a former Slavic settlement in the 12th century. Standing in the low land, it was protected by deep ditches from three sides. Up until the 17th century dukes of Anhalt-Zerbst lived here. It was probably them that the wedding ring found during excavations in the castle belonged to – one of the oldest golden adornments in Germany!
The castle was reconstructed several times. It hosted the residence of dukes of Anhalt-Köthen, a forestry, a prison, residential facilities. Today the castle is used occasionally. From July to September theater festival TheaterBurg Roßlau is conducted here, while in December a Christmas fair takes the place. the castle belonged to – one of the oldest golden adornments in Germany!
