About 10 thousand people at the same time could watch the spectacles in the Roman theater in the I century AD! Today it is the largest ancient theater of those found north of the Alps (its diameter is 116 meters). It existed a short while: in the IV century, during construction of the city wall, the theater was gradually disassembled in order to strengthen the fortifications. The foundation of the theater was found by the end of the XIX century. Excavations last until now. It is scheduled to restore part of the theater, however concerts and theatrical performances are currently held on its ruins which preserved acoustics.
