The English landscape park Bad Homburg is like a doll. It is a work of art and includes several historical and architectural monuments. Kurpark was created by court architect and gardener Peter Joseph Lenne, the author of several royal parks in Prussia. The 40 hectares entrusted to Lenne include 136 species of shrubs, 82 species of trees, ponds, flower beds, fountains, mineral resources, and a greenhouse. Continental Europe’s oldest golf course is on the park’s territory.
A garden of smells and touch planted with aromatic plants was established in 1983 there. It is also called the Garden of the Blind, because its signs are duplicated with explanations in Braille. There are also several historically significant buildings in the park. It is first of all “The Mother of Monte Carlo" - Europe's first casino, among the regulars of which was Fyodor Dostoevsky. It is believed that he reflected his impressions of the roulette game in this casino in the novel "The Gambler". The casino’s success inspired its founder Francois Blanc to build a few more casinos already in France.
The park has the symbol of the resort - Kaiser Wilhelms-Bad thermal baths in the style of the Italian High Renaissance. The baths were built for the family of monarch Wilhelm II and is still functioning. There is a swimming pool here with salt water, grass, hay, aromatic saunas, sun and sand baths. Russian Emperor Nicholas II laid the first stone of the Orthodox Church of All Saints here. It was built by Leonty Benois at the initiative of Russian Privy Councilor Alexander Provorov vacationing in the city. The mineral water park is specialized in various fields: the springs of Elizabeth and Augusta Victoria help patients with problems of the stomach, the sulfur spring of Louise is good for the heart and blood vessels, and salt fountain successfully treats skin problems.
