Polar Star landscape park emerged on the site of the mine Polar Star, which stopped working in the 1990s. The park’s attraction is an amphitheater built on the Rhine-Herne canal for the German garden show in 1997. In the warmer months concerts are held there. The park also has an arched bridge over the canal, three 18-foot cliffs for fans of climbing, the world's third-largest model railway, playgrounds and huge sculptures. Biking and hiking trails have also been paved at the park. The latter is included in the Industrial Heritage Route of the Ruhr region.
