For centuries Solingen’s masters suffered from the fact that their products were ruthlessly forged. Most likely, it is no accident that a museum of counterfeit products appeared in the city. Its exposition covers not only skillfully simulated production of Solingen’s shadow economy operators. The museum’s organizers "talk" about the art of counterfeiting, about forgery as art.
Rido Busse-a German industrial designer- is considered to be the founder of the museum. He so often saw counterfeits of famous brands in everyday life that eventually decided to establish an exposition devoted to counterfeiting skills. Now, the collection includes more than 250 exhibits. The original and fake products are displayed here side by side. It is often impossible to distinguish one from another. In the museum there are very different things-shoes, clothing, appliances, and electronics. The museum has even established an annual award: Plagiarius statuette is awarded for the most significant achievements in the field of fraud and plagiarism.
