The Old School House Weiden in der Oberpfalz is a former high school for the study of Latin and German languages. Today, Hans Bauer Cultural Centre (Kulturzentrum Hans Bauer) named after the mayor of Weiden is located in the huge building of the XVI century. It houses the City Museum (Stadtmuseum), an art gallery, the Local History Museum of the Czech city of Tachov, the archives and the city library.
In the Old School House in Weiden, you can trace the history of the city and learn more about its industries - glass, ceramics and textiles; also see the shopping and tourist routes on charts. Among other things, there is also the museum room of Max Reger (Max-Reger-Zimmer), the famous composer and teacher, who lived in Weiden in his youth. He is honored here as a real legend and the exposition always greatly interests people.
The school building itself was originally built as a grain storage barn, but later it was made a language school. In the late 70-ies of the XX century, the building was reconstructed. However, the layout and interior details remain the same. It often hosts art- and culture-related celebrations, ranging from workshops to award ceremonies of local competitions.
