Built on a rocky cliff in 1372 byDuke Brunswick at theintersection of trade routes, Neuhaus castle was a powerful military facility.The height of the walls reached 20 meters, the donjon at the gates seemedinaccessible, and the yard could be entered only via a drawbridge. But at theend of the XVI century, Neuhaus was attacked by Volrad von Mansfeld andsuffered. It was given under administrative needs, and its utility rooms housedbreweries and distilleries.

In thetwentieth century, there was a sports school and then a children’s home in Neuhaus castle. Now it houses a museum. You can view thecastle tower and the Knight's hall, as well as various workshops. The castlehosts craftsmen fairs, culinary and music festivals.
