One of the oldest book-printing museums in the country is a "gift" to the native of Mainz Johannes Gutenberg on his 500th anniversary. The main treasures of the museum are the Gutenberg Bible, printed in this city, the first book created using hand typesetting, as well as the restored workshop of Gutenberg, where you can see the process of book printing.
The collection includes other ancient books, printing equipment, exhibits related to the writing culture and printing art of other countries. The museum is housed in a building of the XVII century, where once there was a hotel, the guests of which were Goethe, Mozart and Voltaire. The house gate is decorated with a sculpture of Gutenberg.
