Romy Schneider Museum appeared in her hometown thanks to one of the actress’s fans. One of the brightest stars of the German cinema, Romy spent the first 11 years of her life with her mother and brother in Schönau am Königsee. In 1955, aged 17, she became famous having played the role of the Austrian empress in the trilogy “Sissy”. Even though after that she moved to Paris with her fiancé Alain Delon, until the end of her life she regularly returned to Schönau am Königsee to visit her mother. Magda Schneider lived here until she died in 1996.
In the collection of the Romy Schneider Museum you can see her costumes, posters of her films, playbills of theatre performances, postcards, magazines with her interviews. The actress’s fan who initially created the museum even managed to find Romy’s classmates who shared her letters, drawings, and handicrafts. Since 2015 the museum belongs to the town.
