The unusual name of the private museum (N)Ostalgie isa play on words, a hint of Ostalgie - nostalgia for Ost-the East Germany. Themuseum exhibition is a brief encyclopedia on the life of the average citizen ofthe GDR with Soviet-made alarm clocks, telephones from Dresden, shepherd’splaids, canned food and other plain household items.
All of thesethings, including the red Soviet car, belonged to the founder of the museum,Horst Hager and his friends. Hager founded the museum to show that, althoughthe division of Germany into two parts had a negative impact, life in the GDRhad its charm, for which many still yearn.
