500 works including paintings, drawings, sculptures and others- key figures in the art of the twentieth century -are collected in the Museum Frieder Burda. The art patron of Frieder Burda, the son of the founder of Burda Moden publishing house, collected a collection of millions of dollars under the roof of the futuristic building built by famous Richard Meier.
Expressionism is represented by the works of Max Beckmann and August Macke, Picasso's works of his late period illustrate the Post-Impressionism, Jackson Pollock and Mark Rothko illustrate the abstract expressionism, and sculptures by Joan Miró are an example of surrealism.
The Museum Frieder Burda is located next to the Lichtenthal Alley (Lichtentaler Allee), one of the most well-kept city parks. There is also the small private Himer and Himer Museum (Himer & Himer Privates Schuhmachermuseum) of a shoemaker there with an exhibition of handmade shoes, which Alex Himer has been making for already 20 years. His customers include Arnold Schwarzenegger and world known politicians.
