The world’s only museum of the historical Maybach vehicles is in Neumarkt. In 1921-1941 Maybach released around 1800 cars. Today, only 160 vehicles have remained in the world. 16 of them - exactly 10% - are kept in this museum.
The Museum of Historical Maybach Vehicles grew from the private collection of Helmut Hofmann. The son of a mechanic, he was interested in cars since early childhood, but the Maybach brand fascinated him only twenty years ago. Maybach SW 38 Pullman Cabriolet became the first exhibit of his collection. Later, more than a dozen vintage cars appeared in it, for which Hoffmann hunted all over the world. Some of the exhibits have survived only in the form of debris that Hofmann found in a barn in Riga. But at least seven cars from the collection are still in working order. A special part of the exhibition covers the history of specific vehicles and their famous owners. The museum is housed in the former factory Express-Werken, which produced bikes and later motorcycles and mopeds. The gray concrete walls of the exhibition halls became the perfect backdrop for the powerful and at the same time elegant cars. The museum’s theme is reflected even in the toilets’ finishing. Photos with the increased image of the Maybach grille are on booths’ doors. The hand dryers are made of exhaust pipes.
