The Oldenburg Municipal Museum is the best way to make a short excursus to the history of the city and the former duchy. The permanent exhibitions are concentrated in three buildings that make up the museum complex. The villa of the collector Theodor Francksen houses objects d’art and historical exhibits of the XVII-XX centuries. The second historic villa presents the works of the local artist, photographer and graphic Bernhard Winter. And the third building illustrates the military history and six large-scale dioramas of Oldenburg, showing how the city had been changing from the IX to XIX centuries.
