Money Fountain appeared in Aachen in 1976. Created by sculptor Karl Henning Seemann at the order of Sparkasse Aachen financial group. The fountain in the avant-garde style shows three vices associated with money-begging, avarice and greed. Each vice is represented by one of the figures of the composition. There is also a father here explaining the essence of financial transactions to his son sitting in the water.
The sculptural group "Circulation of Money" is seemingly discordant with the historical image of Aachen. However, the townspeople immediately liked the fountain. They call it differently: “a monument to corruption”, “a fountain of beggars”, but more often -just "Money Fountain» (Geldbrunnen). Now it is a popular meeting place for Aachen residents and guests.
Many fountains in the world have their own legend. There is a legend about Aachen’s Geldbrunnen: if you throw a coin into it, the financial affairs will take a favourable turn. And, of course, none of the visitors of the town could miss the opportunity to improve their financial situation in this way.
