Maschsee is a man-made lake, near which Hannover residents like to relax in the warmer months. About a hundred years ago a gloomy swamp was in the place of today's lake. The idea to create here a pond for the rest of the townspeople appeared in the twenties of the XX century. In 1934 the idea was made a reality. First the lake was fed by the Leine River’s waters, but now it is fed from underground sources.
In summer here you can go boating, learn to surf, rent a bike or longboard, warm up on the beach. There is a café and a beerhouse overlooking the lake.
