The Stone Bridge, quaint Town Hall towers, half-timbered houses, theelegant fountain make Wernigerode’s Market Square. Not only tourists, but alsowedding processions come here, as the Town Hall (Rathaus) here is popular amongthe newly married couples. This amazing building was erected in the XV centuryon the site of a gambling house, Graf von Wernigerode. The pinnacle was built atthe same time. The facade is decorated with 33 wooden figures of saints,virgins and clowns.
On weekends tours are organized through the TownHall on Market Square. After the official part at the Town Hall, the weddingceremonies continue on the street to take a picture at the old fountain inWohltaeterbrunnen. It was erected in the centre of the square in 1848 in honourof the city's benefactors.
