The main historical andarchitectural attractions of Heilbronn are concentrated on the main townsquare. One of them is the XV-XVI century Town Hall (Rathaus) with amazingastronomical clock, mosaic columns and a marble fountain in the courtyard. Thegiant Gothic Lutheran Church of St. Kilian of the XV century (Kilianskirhe) standsnear the Town Hall. Its western tower, which was named after the architect,Hans Schweiner, is considered the first building in the Renaissance style,erected to the north of the Alps.
Anothercolossus - Hafenmarktturm Tower, the only surviving building of the medievalFranciscan monastery- also stands on Market Square in Heilbronn. An observationdeck is open at its top. In addition, a carillon with bells is installed on thetower. Their sound can be heard daily at 10:55am and 07:20pm. The Kathchen House(Käthchenhaus) is another attraction of Market Square. According to legend,this medieval mansion of the XIV century is where Kathchen of Heilbronn, themain character of the play by Heinrich von Kleist, lived.
