Little Venice is the name of the Island part of the town in Bamberg. Former fishermen village turned with time into a picturesque corner. You can spend a whole day here, walking along medieval Fachwerk houses with small gardens. Most convenient way to watch the shore line of Little Venice is from Regnitz, where you can boat. There are boutiques and several big department stores at your service in Little Venice. Thanks to the proximity of the university you will find cafés and restaurants to any taste and wallet: from a student diner to an old tavern.
You should also visit the farmer market that provides townsfolk with fresh vegetables and fruit on a daily basis. In summer Little Venice becomes the centre of the folklore celebration Sandkerwa which is celebrated for five days in August. People come to see dress-up competition of fishermen, procession of decorated boats and, of course, to drink beer.
