It took almost half a century to create the large park complex in baroque style in Herrenhausen. It was built from 1666 to 1714. It appeared on the initiative of Electress Sofia, who was greatly impressed by the French Versailles. A palace is the center of the complex, which served as the summer residence of the Dukes of Hannover. Reconstruction recently completed in the palace and it again opened its doors to visitors in the summer of 2013.
The residence in Herrenhausen should be visited in summer. After all, only flowers here total to over 30 thousand! You can enjoy the fountains during the warmer months, and fireworks and costumed performances in the evenings. The biggest fountain in Europe (82 meters) is in Herrenhausen.
The park also houses the museum of German graphic artist Wilhelm Busch.
