Kurfürst zoo in Braunfels is one of the oldest inGermany. It was founded by the count Wilhelm Moriz Solms-Braunfels in 1704. Itwas the count’s personal park with animals sent to his court. Besides, thecount used to hunt in this area. With time, the park was expanded. Today it covers55 hectares.
Best representedin the zoo are the cloven-hoofed animals are – moufflons, elks, deer. Manyplaces in the park are still preserved the way they used to be in the lifetimeof the founder. Here you can see several hundred-year-old trees. There is eventhe first forest ranger’s hut. Today it hosts a restaurant.
