Lake Konigssee near Berchtesgaden in Bavaria is wonderfully beautiful. It was formed from melt glaciers during the past ice age. This body of water pinched between the mountains is Germany’s third deepest. But it has a commanding lead in another category. It is believed that the Königssee is Germany's cleanest lake. Therefore, it is impossible to sail on boats and gasoline-powered motor boats on it. You can only row or sail on electric motor ships. Perhaps, that is why it is always quiet.
On the other hand, every sound on Lake Konigssee is multiply reflected. Surrounded by mountains on all sides, the water surface creates incredibly strong echo effect. The picturesque lake has attracted tourists since the XIX century. In the middle of the last century painters were attracted to it and Malereck appeared. This is a township of painters, where many masters of the brush and paints come to make sketches.
