Kakesbek Castle is one of the three castles in Lüdinghausen. It is not located in the city center, but is still worth exploring if you visit those places. It is surrounded by water, like a real medieval castle. By the way, there are a lot of such castles in the area - as many as nine. And like a real medieval fortress, Kakesbek Castle has its own terrible legend.
The knight in an iron collar (Das eiserne Halsband des Ritters Lambert von Oer) called Knight Lambert von Oer lived here. Lambert's enemy put the collar with spikes inside on him, thus trying to challenge his right to inheritance. Many years later, a blacksmith from Munster freed the knight from the metallic collar breaking it with three hammer blows. This collar is in Vischering Castle Museum. Today, Kakesbek Castle belongs to a private owner. Reconstruction is underway in the castle’s territory, so the entrance is only possible by prior arrangement. But visitors are allowed to tour around it and admire from a distance. Surrounded by water, it makes a strong impression.
