Wilhelmshaven boasts one of the largest rotatingbridges in Europe-the Kaiser Wilhelm Bridge (Kaiser-Wilhelm-Brücke). For thosewho don’t know: a rotating bridge opens for ships rotating to the side, andthen, when it returns to its original position, transport goes on it as onusual bridges.
During the rotation, trafficon the bridge is impossible. The traffic on the bridge is regulated by trafficlights and is one-way. The Kaiser Wilhelm Bridge connects South Beach and thepromenade (Südstrandpromenade) to the southern districts of the town. In 2007, itscentenary was celebrated on a grand scale. Deutsche Post Company even issued astamp with the image of the bridge, and the celebrations attracted people frommany cities in the world.
