Secular history of Bamberg is reflected in the exposition of the historical museum located in the Old Court. The oldest exhibits here are the so-called Bamberg idols. These are three sandstone slabs from 1 to 1.7 metres, with images of men in mantles engraved on them. Idols were found in the Regnitz river in the middle of the 19th century. Scientists have not come to a unified opinion as to their age. Some think images could have been created in the neolith era. However others are convinced that this is a sample of the early Christian art. There are also collections of coins of different eras, close combat weapons, furniture, clocks.
