Several unique vessels that are open for watching foranyone wishing found peace in the old harbor of Bremerhaven. The first Germanships fishing in deep waters went into the sea from here. One of them, the lastof its kind wooden barque “Seute Deern”, hasn’t floated since 1966.
The Technical Museum Submarine “Wilhelm Bauer”(Technikmuseum U-Boot «Wilhelm Bauer») is the only existing Type XXI submarine.It was built in 1944. Icebreaker “Wal” (Museumsschiff Dampf-Eisbrecher «Wal»)began to break the ice in the Kiel Canal (Kiel Kanal) in 1938. In 1990 it wascompletely renovated. The team of volunteers keeps the cabins in the originalcondition and organizes shorter sailing along the coast of the North and BalticSeas.
