Handel House was built in the center of Halle in the XVI century. From 1666 to 1784 it belonged to the family of the composer. George Frideric Handel was born here in 1685 and lived in the house until 1703. The house had different owners, until in 1948 the house-museum of the famous composer was built here.
Today, Handel House is not just a museum with an exhibition of musical instruments and a permanent exhibition. Handel House is still the center of the annual International Handel Festival (Händel-Festspiele). It is within the walls of his own house that the composer’s music is played with great success. 250 years later his operas go on stage at theaters around the world. And those who want to learn more about the life and work of the great German could listen to lectures and participate in seminars.
