Großkühnau residence was constructed for the youngestbrother of the Duke Leopold III, Albert. He was a complete ascetic in his life,that’s why the castle was equipped with simple, durable furniture and only inthe banquet hall there are paintings decorating the place. Albert hadconcentrated much more on creating a park around the residence.
Upon Albert’sinitiative artificial islands appeared on the Kühnau lake, while an orchard andvineyards with another small castle, the architectural dominant of the park,appeared near the forest. Sculptures of heroes of Ancient Greek myths areerected at the entrance to the park.
